Spark or Re-new Your Love

by Michelle Skye

With the sweet sap of spring trickling in our veins and heating our blood, thoughts naturally turn to love and to the presence of or wish for a significant other. We all want companionship. We long for the other who will understand our deepest desires and know our deepest secrets, loving us for our own inner beauty and light. However, finding this soul mate, this intimate friend is often a difficult and lengthy process. And even if the person sleeps next to us every night, it does not necessarily mean that they share our sensibilities, our heart throbs, and night sweats. Proximity does not always yield heart-felt understanding.

The following exercise is designed to be performed completely by yourself or with a trusted lover. Should you choose to include your significant other, explain the exercise to him/her ahead of time. If s/he laughs, makes disparaging remarks, or feels uncomfortable, you probably will be better off performing it solo, at least for the time being. The exercise is designed to awaken your bodily senses and to send your desire for a “soul intimate” into the universe, where it will be heard by the divine. (If you are currently in a committed relationship, you can send your desire for deeper connection with your lover.) You will need some body paint (I prefer gold but pick a color that calls to you), a fine paintbrush for each person participating in the exercise, candles, and some relaxing, trance inducing music. If you have difficulty finding body paint, you can purchase an eyeliner pencil for each participant instead.

Choose a time when you will not be disturbed. You should give yourself at least an hour for this exercise. Go to your bedroom, turn up the heat (if it’s chilly), close the blinds (if it’s daytime), light the candles, and play the music. When the room is ready, each participant takes off his/her clothes and lies down on the bed. It is best to lay on top of the covers, not under them, as you are trying to connect to the universal life force through your body. If you are cold, crank the heat some more and wait a few minutes for the room to warm up.

While lying down, take several deep breathes and concentrate on the qualities of your ideal spiritual lover and life partner. If you are performing this with your partner, think of all the characteristics that attract you to your partner, all the personality quirks that you enjoy. Try to stay focused on your ideals for the length of one song. If you can do it for two songs, even better. When the song ends, take your paint and paintbrush or eyeliner and begin drawing swirls, geometric shapes, and other designs on your body, always focusing on your ideal lover (or the ideal qualities of your significant other). If your significant other is participating with you, draw on each other, taking turns. Do not forget to draw on your most private parts, as well as energy-sensitive areas such as the bottoms of the feet and the palms of the hands.

When you feel as though your whole body is covered, sit on your bed and feel your desire to connect with your significant other (either the one sitting next to you or the one you haven’t met yet) course through you. The energy should feel intense and hot. In your mind’s eye, see the designs on your body pulsing with your heartbeat and then glowing with your sexuality and desire. When you feel as if the energy in your body is so hot and so intense that you can no longer withstand it, send it up to the universe in a burst or flare of light that comes from the designs on your body.

Afterwards, you may want to take a shower (with your partner, if you like), eat, or toast your connection to the universe with a drink. Whatever you do, make it a celebration of your beautiful body, your gateway to the divine!
